CORKOTE Blister Coatings Characteristics
  • Excellent fiber tearing seals to recommended blister boards
  • Positive heat seal response with energy applied through board or through blister
  • Low VOC @ .25 lbs./gal.
  • Good gloss at 45-55% @ 60 degrees
  • Good adhesion
  • Good block resistance
  • Good abrasion resistance
  • FDA Compliance to 175.105 indirect dry food
  • Non-settling, does not require continuous agitation during use
  • Low odor
  • Non-yellowing

All are low VOC, 44-46% solids, aqueous polymeric based. All are designed to be applied in a one bump application to achieve effective, acceptable heat seal functionality under normal blister sealing conditions.

CK-5790   LIGHT COATING WEIGHT 0.3-0.45 lbs/msf (dry)

CK-5791-26   MEDIUM COATING WEIGHT 0.5-0.6 lbs/msf (dry)

CK-5790 is formulated for in-line litho wet trapping with coat weights of 0.3-0.45 lbs./MSF (DRY).

CK-5790 is an aqueous , fast drying heat seal coating that has been formulated to provide effective fiber tearing properties for blister board card application. Usage: CORKOTE— 5790 is specifically designed to be applied one bump, inline, wet trapped over conventional wax free sheetfed offset litho blister pack inks. It has also demonstrated functionality when applied in-line over blister pack flexo or sheetfed offset UV inks. It is heat sealable to a variety of blister cell plastic films.  Recommended single bump dry coat weight range is 0.3-0.45 lbs./MSF.

These recommended single bump dry coat weights have been obtained using tower coaters and blanket coaters. Effective fiber tearing seals have been obtained when sealing PVC and other blister cells to recommended blister boards within standard heat sealing conditions of 350°F-375°F, 50-60 PSI, and 2-3 seconds dwell. Per usual, the longer temperature/pressure/time conditions are required when heavier pt. recommended blister board stocks are used.

CK-5791-26 is formulated to be more block resistant than CK-5790 and it is more forgiving of a variety of different 0.5-0.6 lbs/MSF (DRY) in-line litho wet trapping press conditions.

CORKOTE CK-5791-26 is targeted at the sheet fed offset, and/or flexo printer who is driven to print and heat seal coat blister board, inline, to service the carded blister and fold over card market. The market is moving fast in this direction as aqueous heat seal coatings make possible high productivity, economical one pass print/coat production. In-line production offers a huge improvement over the previous practice of printing first, followed by an off-line second pass roller coat application of blister heat seal coating.

CK-5791-26 is an aqueous, fast drying heat seal blister coating formulated for one bump in-line application on blister board, wet trapping over wax free litho (blister) ink on extended delivery sheetfed presses. Produces excellent fiber tearing seals, sealing to a variety of blister cell films. Also functional over UV inks and on flexo presses.

CK-5795   MEDIUM COATING WEIGHT 0.5-0.6 lbs/msf (dry)

CK-5796   HEAVY COATING WEIGHT 0.8-1.2 lbs/msf (dry)

CORKOTE CK-5795 is specifically formulated for those off-line roller coaters where coat weight is controlled to the range of 0.5-0.6 lbs./MS (DRY). Heavier coat weights of this coating will remain tacky and block. When roll coaters are set up to coat in heavier coat weights they must use CK-5796 as discussed below.

CORKOTE CK-5796 is an aqueous, fast drying heat seal coating that has been formulated to provide effective fiber tearing properties for blister board card application. Usage: CORKOTE—5796 is specifically designed to be applied one bump, off-line over various blister pack inks. It has also demonstrated functionality when applied in-line over blister pack flexo or UV inks. It is heat sealable to a variety of blister cell plastic films. It is specifically formulated for those off-line roller coaters where heavier coat weights of 0.8-1.2 lbs./MSF (DRY) are maintained as a practice.

CORKOTE CK-56 is an aqueous, fast drying heat seal coating that may be applied by roller coater, flexo or gravure means. CK-56 will seal to paper and paper board. CORKOTE CK-56 can be utilized in fold over blister packaging, peel seals and as a replacement for hot melted or solvent heat seal coatings on labels, boxes and carton applications.
